Getting Accredited by CILT

CILT has three accreditation processes:

1. Accrediting a provider’s existing transport, logistics or supply chain degree programs to meet our global knowledge standards for full CILT Membership (MILT or CMILT grades)

2. Accrediting education and other training providers approved to deliver CILT qualifications and other CILT accredited programs

3. CILT accreditation or endorsement of a training provider’s existing (non-degree) courses and programs as Continuing Professional Development

It is important that the standards of the CILT are upheld in the learning environment, quality of staff, standards of teaching and many other areas This page explains the process for gaining accreditation through CILT North America. We work collaboratively with the CILT International organization who is responsible for global standards and education development, who we may also involve in the accreditation process

1. Accreditation of existing Degree Programs

Existing degree programs in the fields of Transport, Logistics and Supply Chain would be assessed to confirm mapping to the Key Knowledge Area (KKA) standards for Chartered Membership. The KKA can be viewed here.

In order for an existing Degree program to be assessed for accreditation an application form should be submitted to the appropriate contact listed in the “Who to Contact” section below.

As a condition of the approval, the key staff teaching the degrees should apply to become MILT, CMILT or FCILT grade members and this will be assessed by the Membership Committee of CILT North America.  (More details on CILT grades can be found here).

The accreditation of existing Degree Programs also includes accreditation of the training provider. No further accreditation is therefore necessary.

Course accreditation fees are $1250 per degree program plus any visit costs required for the accreditation. Details of the fees for the assessment process and gaining accreditation status will be discussed with applicants on receipt of your application.

2. Becoming an accredited training provider

In order for a training provider to offer CILT’s own qualifications (in ‘full’ or ‘modular’ format), an application form and supporting information should be submitted to the appropriate contact listed in the “Who to Contact” section below.

We have produced full guidelines for the accreditation of centers and course and these should be carefully followed by an education or training provider wishing to offer CILT courses and/or receive accreditation of their degrees or other existing programs. You can download the guidance document for the process here.

Training providers should note that it is vital that CILT Chartered Members are within the proposed teaching team to keep the standards high, and although it may be possible for an organisation to bring in guest speakers and other lecturers, we are looking for organisations that can demonstrate robust and sustainable lecturing teams in the longer-term.

We provide a modular Promoting Training Excellence short course (30 hours) which includes an introductory module to CILT and a menu of mini-modules that can be selected by those new to lecturing and working with CILT. This is avaible online and will be delivered in partnership with CILT International.

Note that there are charges levied for the accreditation process and a requirement for a CILT site visit to be carried out.   The cost of the visit should be borne by the training provider, but we aim to keep costs affordable.

Details of the fees for the assessment process and gaining accreditation status will be provided on receipt of your application.

CILT’s rigorous application and testing process is in place to make sure our standards remain high. Re-accreditation normally needs to be carried out every 3 years.

3. Accreditation and Recognition of existing (non-degree) Programs

CILT offers training providers an opportunity to have short courses or programs to be accredited  by CILT and the approved  hours qualify towards CILT qualification and can be added by individuals to their own personal CPD record. This will involve the provider and the course being assessed to achieve accreditation using this application form.

Alternatively, providers may wish to offer short courses and programs which are not assessed at ‘qualification’ level but would be endorsed by CILT North America. Applications for these course providers is managed by the local CILT North America Chapter. Contact details are found in the Chapters section at https://ciltna.com/ or providers can contact the CILT North America administration at admin@ciltna.com.

This is an ideal route for training partners who offer short or niche course and would like to get involved in building a relationship with CILT.

Details of the fees for the assessment process and gaining accreditation status will be provided on receipt of your application.
