The incoming US President has recently made news headlines with his proposal to pass Executive Orders on or after 20 January 2025 to impose a 25% tariff on all products coming into the US from Canada and Mexico. Similar announcements have been made around a 10% increase in tariffs on products coming from China.
While there is a degree of uncertainty around the likelihood and extent of these proposals being put into action, the use of tariffs as an instrument of trade policy is a well-worn path. In this session, KPMG Trade & Customs professionals will delve beneath the headlines and explore the implications of these developments and address the concerns businesses may have in the new trade environment we are entering.
The panel will be led by Andrew Siciliano, KPMG’s Global Practice Leader, Trade & Customs, together with representatives from KPMG firms in the US, Canada and Mexico.
During this webinar, we plan to discuss the following key topics:
• The use of tariffs as a tool of trade policy, including during President Trump’s first term in office;
• Understanding how tariffs apply and their economic effect;
• Regulatory mechanisms that the incoming US administration can and may use to implement new tariffs;
• What companies can do now to prepare for these changes;
• Industries and trading activities most likely to be impacted across Canada, Mexico and the US;
• Potential retaliatory measures;
• Likely opportunities for trade negotiation to mitigate the impact of tariffs or to forestall their implementation.
This session aims to provide you with the necessary insights to navigate the evolving trade and tariff landscape effectively. We hope you can join us for this informative event.
